Hotel Like MCP Server

AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code can connect to Hotel Like. Once connected, they can answer “where should I stay in Kyoto?” using our city guides and vibe-based hotel search — with a source line on every result.

Install in your AI client

Copy this prompt into your AI chat

Paste this into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any AI chat that can connect outside tools:

Add the Hotel Like MCP server to your connected tools:
- Name: hotel-like
- Transport: HTTP (streamable)
- URL: https://hotel-like.co/mcp
- Authentication: none
After connecting, list its tools, then use them when I ask about hotels in Japan by vibe — Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Sapporo, Fukuoka, Naha.

One-click install

Claude Desktop (manual setup)

In Claude Desktop’s settings, add this snippet to the connections file (claude_desktop_config.json):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "hotel-like": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://hotel-like.co/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Sign-up and passwords

None needed. The server is free to use and open to everyone; fair-use limits apply (see Limits and fairness below).

The address

Your AI tool only needs one address to connect: https://hotel-like.co/mcp. No key and no sign-up needed. Most tools handle everything else on their own — the command below is only for checking the connection by hand:

curl -s -X POST https://hotel-like.co/mcp \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -H 'Accept: application/json, text/event-stream' \
  -H 'MCP-Protocol-Version: 2026-07-28' \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"server/discover"}'

Tools

list_city_guides

The six Japan city guides: Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Sapporo, Fukuoka, Naha — a short name, the full name, and the page link.

Input: None.

get_city_guide

One city guide: neighborhood names with a one-line vibe each, plus the guide page link.

Input: Which city, e.g. "kyoto".

search_hotels

Ranked real hotels for a vibe query, up to 5 per search: name, area, star rating, match score, up to 3 reasons it matches, and a booking link. Prices are estimates from our booking partner at search time and can change.

Input: Your vibe query (5–200 characters), optionally with check-in and check-out dates (stays of 1–14 nights, bookable up to 330 days ahead).

Example — a search your AI tool runs:

curl -s -X POST https://hotel-like.co/mcp \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -H 'Accept: application/json, text/event-stream' \
  -H 'MCP-Protocol-Version: 2026-07-28' \
  -d '{
    "jsonrpc": "2.0",
    "id": 2,
    "method": "tools/call",
    "params": {
      "name": "search_hotels",
      "arguments": { "query": "quiet ryokan near onsen in Kyoto" }
    }
  }'

Limits and fairness

  • Guide tools: free to use, up to 60 look-ups per hour and 500 per day.
  • Hotel search is free with no sign-up, but every search costs the site money, so it is limited to 5 searches per hour and 20 per day. When a limit hits, your AI tool is told to wait a bit and try again.
  • Each answer includes at most 5 hotels or 10 guide entries — that keeps things fair for everyone.
  • Booking links are the same tracked links the website uses; they never affect which hotels are listed or how they rank.
  • Attribution: every result ends with a Source: hotel-like.co … line. Keep it with the answer.
  • The server is for personal and AI-assistant use: no bulk copying or resale of the data.
  • Your data is safe: we keep a minimal record of each request (which tool, rough inputs, result count, success) for 30 days, and never store your actual internet address or the full answers.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT only allows outside tools in “developer mode”. As of October 2026, that mode is limited to Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces and needs an admin to switch it on. Official docs

Setup steps were checked against each tool’s official docs in October 2026; these tools change often, so their own docs win if they disagree with this page.
